Optic Echo Ambient Showcase 6/24/12 (oeX002)
Sunday, June 24, 2012
On Sunday, June 24, we wrapped up the Closer Festival weekend with an amalgamation of experimental, ambient, and modern classical sound. The Optic Echo Ambient Showcase took place at Director Park, an open space in downtown Portland.
We also celebrated the release of “Tessellations”, a collaborative LP from Marcus Fischer and Ted Laderas (The OO-Ray), on Optic Echo Records. This showcase was a rare opportunity to hear them present the looped cello tones and hazy ambience in a live format.

Mike Jedlicka
Marcus Fischer is a musician + multimedia artist currently based in Portland, Oregon. He has released two albums on the 12k label along with numerous EPs and collaborations for a variety of other outlets. Field recordings, chance, and DIY instruments, coupled with acoustic instrumentation and visual art, define what has become Marcus’s minimal signature.

The OO-Ray is the alias of Ted Laderas, an improvisatory and experimental cellist from Portland, Oregon. A scientist of biologic systems by day, he extends his experimental attitude to exploring the outer possibilities of the cello, often distorting, looping, or pitch-shifting his instrument beyond recognizability into waves of reverberation and extended drones. Inspired by the gauzy textures of My Bloody Valentine, he calls his style “shoegazer cello” or “chamber drone”. His music explores the realms of electroacoustic, shoegazer, and ambient.
ETHERNET
Kranky recording artist Tim Gray performs under the name Ethernet, creating constantly-morphing sonic textures and hypnotic drones over a bed of subtle rhythms; a style he has termed "pulse-ambient". His first album "144 Pulsations Of Light" (2009) was featured in The Wire magazine, XLR8R, Pitchfork and numerous other blogs and magazines. His new album "Opus 2" will be released on Kranky later this year (2012). Tim performs regularly with the improvisational Battery Powered Music Ensemble at local Portland venues and street events

WIDESKY
Widesky is the moniker of experimental artist Seth Chrisman. Field recordings, processed instrumentation, & radio static are woven together thru improvisation to create gradually unfurling & habitable textures.

wndfrm (cloudburst)
wndfrm is Tim Westcott, also known as 'cloudburst', who has been working with sound as a creative medium since the early 90's. His sonic pallette ranges from abstract techno through embryonic sine-wave baths and further left towards field-sourced granular drones and deep minimalistic tones.
Mike is the owner of Optic Echo Records and he has been djing a mix of ambient, experimental, and modern classical vinyl since the late 90's. His radio show "Optic Echo Presents" can be heard on the Portland Radio Authority on Monday nights from 6-8pm PST. His last album, a 12" on Optic Echo Records entitled "Tabor / NW Passage EP", came out in 2010 with label mate cloudburst.
